The mysterious, glorious and fabulous little town of Ella!

The mysterious, glorious and fabulous little town of Ella!

Since we looked at Flying Ravana – we thought we might take you through the full offerings of this little town. Now, a head’s up – Ella town is full of some irresistible sites, but we will cherry pick 03 that we feel will give you the best idea of Ella, and also leave you some to experience on your stay here in the country.

1. Climb Little Adam’s Peak

In colloquial terms, it is said that Little Adam’s peak is the nephew of Adam’s peak. If you were wondering what Adam’s peak is – a sacred mountain venerated by Muslims, Buddhists, Christians and Hindus for its presence of a large imprint of a foot (5’ 11’) which according to the Muslims and Christians is Adam’s footprint, Buddha’s footprint according to the Buddhists and Lord Shiva or Hanuman according to Hindu tradition. Adam’s peak is trekked by many thousands of pilgrims and travelers alike across countries for religious and also adventurous reasons. And our Little Adam’s peak in Ella too provides a similar experience in terms of adventure and enchanting views atop it. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the foot of the mountain from the Ella town and 15 minutes to the top of the mountain. Scenic views are aplenty, and it’s definitely an experience that you need to indulge in!

2. Take a swim at Diyaluma Falls

Sri Lanka’s second highest waterfall in Sri Lanka – Diyaluma sits also not far from Ella town. There are quite a few ways, but perhaps the Poonagala road would be more easy to be done. A 30 minute hike will take you to Diyaluma Falls. What’s exciting is the number of pools cascading towards the edge of the cliff, and this is what falls into one big pool 628 feet below.

If you are game, a few pools which are safe to experience are available for you to dip into for to cool off from the afternoon’s effort.

3. Instagram-worthy Nine Arches Bridge

Nine Arches bridge is perhaps the most famous Instagram site for travelers across regions.  It lies on the Demodara loop and is spans 91 metres at a height of 24 metres. The bridge is very close to Ella town and lies about 3-4 kilometres from the town, and can get you there within a 200 rupee tuk ride. You can either tuk it to the bridge from the town itself or make a 20 minute walk through the jungle.

The bridge is reminiscent of British colonial times, and was built between Ella and Demodara stations.

Leaving you with just 03 sites from the very many Ella has, we invite you to revel in the more exciting expeditions Island Lanka offers you!
